From 1960 to 1964 he designed engines for Daimler Benz at the factory in Unterturkheim, Germany. He got married to Heidi (who also escaped from East Germany) and had a son, Axel. He then had the opportunity to be transferred to the United States in 1964 where there was a great need for qualified technicians in this new and promising market. Hans worked at the Mercedes Benz dealership in Jacksonville, Florida as a technician and after a short time moved up to a local franchised dealer here in Atlanta. In 1967, Hans and a partner started their own repair shop in Brookhaven for four years. In 1971 Hans went out on his own and started MBS Motors, Inc in Chamblee, Georgia. Three more kids and 24 years later, Hans and his two sons, Axel and Larry, built a new facility and moved to Duluth in 1995, which is where MBS is currently located.
